VSL "Synchron Pianos: German Upright 1904" is a virtual instrument for Bechstein upright pianos. The total capacity of the full version is 135 GB, a quality unrivaled by any other sound source.

This C. Bechstein upright piano was manufactured in Kreuzberg, Berlin in the early 20th century. Its unique vintage character was captured in a multi-microphone setup on the Synchroon Stage Vienna Stage B due to the generous proportions of the resonant wood. The very smooth action of the uprights allows for the best gradations from pianissimo to fortissimo. In the main playing range, the sound is more reminiscent of a small concert grand than an upright piano. It conveys the intimate atmosphere of a small concert hall with clear and precise tonal development. The instrument's midrange is very clearly focused, but its timeless character is clearly asserted in all registers.

The instrument was brought to Stuttgart by B. Klinkerfuss, C. Bechstein and J. Brüttner's sole representative, a manufacturer and dealer of pianoforte, and always lived with his family in the Stuttgart area. Pianist and film music composer Mick Baumeister (co-creator of the Hornberg Breath Controller) played it at various stages of his life. The upright was owned by Martin Fritz, who taught young Mick to improvise on the instrument. Decades later, Mick purchased the piano from the family of German actor Holger Demgen. As he says, it never ceases to inspire him to find "the truth."
The difference between the full version and the standard version is the number of microphone positions.
