Accurate emulation of traditional 3-band EQ
Familiar vintage icons
The Neumann W495 EQ was used to master 90% of his records made from the 1970s to the 1990s. However, even after this golden age, many mastering engineers still use his EQ. why? The W495 has a wide equalization curve that allows you to push it to ridiculous levels while still maintaining musicality. The W495 easily provides tone shaping and character for individual tracks, enhancing presence and depth to enhance the overall mix.
To take the Pulsar W495 one step further, Pulsar Audio has added features you'd expect from a modern plug-in. See on-screen curve editor, auto-gain, per-band mid/side selection, comprehensive digital metering, and more. From channel EQ to mastering EQ, the Pulsar W495 is a powerful, easy-to-use tone shaper that faithfully emulates the iconic 3-band EQ.
musical and easy to use
When it comes to workflow, the Pulsar w495 comes with a complete on-screen curve editor and spectrum analyzer for an accurate overview of your EQ changes. It's up to you whether you want to mix by ear, by eye, or both. The Pulsar W495 is a component-accurate model of the original unit. Every aspect of the original unit is maintained in the plug-in version, from the subtle band saturation to the unique-sounding output transformer. The high shelf band is widely known for its ability to increase clarity without being harsh, while the low shift adds weight without muddying. If your source lacks power, the midband can be your go-to for boosting energy.
Using the mid/side selector for each band on the Pulsar W495, you have the option to run each as mid-only or side-only.
Removes energy from the midband and sides, focusing energy in the center of the stereo image. Use the low shelf mid boost to add bass boost to the center low frequencies only. Enhance the high end of your glossy stereo signal by pushing the transparent high shelf on the sides only.
By cleverly utilizing the latest CPUs, the Pulsar w495 provides powerful audio algorithms while maintaining a lightweight footprint. A resizable interface, comprehensive metering for deep signal visibility, and a judicious selection of modern features make the Pulsar W495 your go-to EQ.
What does it sound like?
mastering
Don't think too hard about it, just leave it on the bus and listen. Versatile and musical, the W495 is an easy-to-use mastering equalizer that requires only three bands to account for faster mix balancing. Even at extreme settings, it has the ability to widen the entire soundstage without becoming overly harsh.
synthesizer
For electronic musicians, synthesizers are often the primary instrument in any production. However, they can also be dominant and fickle when it comes to finding the right spectral balance to fit them into the mix. With Pulsar W495, CPU consumption is incredibly low and you can quickly and gracefully adjust this balance.
drum
The W495's sound comes in part from the output transformer (Haufe RK 756), which provides subtle coloration at the lower end of the spectrum, especially on dynamic sources like drum busses. The Pulsar W495 easily adds body to your bass drum, enhances air to your cymbals, and adds color (and softens it if you want) to your midrange. All in record time.
Features
Visual curve editing
The controls in the Curve Editor correspond to the gain, frequency, and Q values of the following hardware-style knobs, allowing continuous selection of frequency, gain, and filter width. Keyboard modifiers allow you to quickly achieve the desired settings.
mid side treatment
Each band can be used with the entire stereo signal or switched to work with a single focal point. That is, it only processes the Mid signal to process the mono center information. Or use only the side signals to process information other than the stereo center.
oversampling
There are some things you can't do with just a bell and a shelf. Pulsar Audio adds a complex 6-pole tilt filter to adjust the tonal balance of the entire mix in a natural, analog-style manner with a single knob.
Metering and spectrum analyzer
The Pulsar W495 offers the convenience of digital insights with RMS, peak, and peak hold meters for both channels. The spectrum analyzer can be run in fast or slow mode for short- or medium-term spectral visualization, and can be set to infinite mode for integrated readings over long periods of time.
shelf & bell filter
The Control Rack consists of three main sections that correspond to three different EQ bands: a low-shelf filter, a parametric bell filter, and a high-shelf filter. To increase reliability, controls can be set to a limited set of values in stages.
auto gain
Compensates for the overall level change applied to the signal between entering and exiting the EQ. This feature ensures that the output level is close to the input level without the need for balancing after changing the signal.
Presets from top producers
Pulsar Audio is fortunate to have the support and collaboration of countless talented engineers and producers. You can make the most of their expertise with presets that are a great starting point for your mixing or mastering session.
Smart GUI
With fast and effective keyboard modifiers, you're never too far from where you want to be or where you want to make changes. The GUI can focus solely on rack view or curve view, and the entire interface can be resized anywhere between 67% and 200%.
Until 30th September.
