Bit Zone is inspired by the Italian-made Crumar Bit 99. The Crumar Bit 99 is a little-known digitally controlled 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer released to compete with the 6-voice analog synthesizers that were popular in Japan at the time. This powerful synthesizer features two DCOs and two LFOs per voice, a CEM 3328 analog filter per voice, and a VCA per voice, making it a highly versatile design.
All sounds you hear in Bit Zone are derived from the actual hardware. The sound designers pushed the instrument to its limits, creating a range of impressive sounds while keeping both era-specific and modern styles in mind. Furthermore, all samples were recorded both with and without an inline connection of the Yamaha SPX90 "Symphonic" chorus, allowing you to freely utilize this de facto 80s effect in your own sound designs.
Ultimately, we recorded over 29,000 samples from Bit 99 and included over 370 presets created from more than 160 layers in Bit Zone. Explore patch categories such as animated arpeggiator, animated chord step, animated one-key, bass, bell, brass, FX, key, lead, organ, pad, pluck, polysynth, strings, and wind. Each sound in Bit Zone is fully customizable and can be used as is or as a starting point for new sounds. For those who want to create from scratch, the raw waveforms of Bit 99 are also available.
Bit Zone's aesthetic is designed to faithfully reproduce the hardware design elements, allowing you to experience the feel of this unique style of instrument when editing dual-layer sounds, including oscillators, envelopes, multimode filters, LFOs, step modulators, dual arpeggiators, and effects sections such as EQ, drive, Thorus, ensemble, phaser, delay, and Sparkverb.
